Actually I've been thinking about that a lot lately, and it reminds me that when I was young, my parents rarely complimented, spoiled, encouraged, validated, or doted on me, which made me feel quite inadequate as a child. They are not mean people but just incapable of "public display of affection" and they were afraid that if they gave me too much credit that I'd get all cocky and lazy. Of course the good thing that came out of all that is that I'm hugely independent and strong now as an adult; I guess the cost/consequence is now obvious, too. I can also relate to how the way we were raised can affect our personality so much.

Don't feel sorry for her, and don't feel guilty. She needs to mature, and what that requires IMO, that SHE move out, and that YOU DON'T PAY ANY OF HER BILLS. Let her realize that its a tough world out there. If she wants her space, fine but this will show her not everything in life will be handed to her on a silver platter. That what she is doing is NOT the norm.

Redirect your attention and activity to other matters. And keeping busy with your own friends and ACTIVE interests helps a lot.

I’d clean up my act if I were you…starting with getting rid of the pic of your ex. OP, you’re lucky this girl is putting up with all of this, I’m guessing that the only reason she’s doing so is because of how young and inexperienced she is.
